Positive discipline is a way of teaching children to behave appropriately without the use of punishment. It aims to help the child grow up able to make the right decisions for themselves, and to maintain good self esteem. One of the major concerns among parents is how to effectively discipline children. In homes throughout the world, the topic of disciplining children can cause conflicts between parents, grandparents and other family members. Everyone seems to have an opinion over rules and consequences, while parents strive to do the right thing. While there is no manual handed out to parents when they decide to have children, there are many ways to instill positive discipline. There has been plenty of research in this field. Setting the agenda for positive discipline methods starts with an interest from parents, who want to invest on parenting practices that will improve their present and future relationship with their children.

During IPN’s talk this month, Alison Owen will discuss: - Positive discipline strategies and ways on how to promote positive discipline at home - How to create positive values and interactions at home for family members of all ages - Behavioural regulations from twos to teens - What type of positive discipline works and what doesn’t - How to create and follow a positive discipline action plan - Positive discipline tips that will set your child on a path to better behavior and healthy emotions in their adult years
